Two inspectors with the Southern Regional Fishery Board appeared before Waterford District Court yesterday on charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906. Mr Edward Casey, of Lisadell Park, Carrick on Suir, and Mr Edward Haley, of Polerone, Mooncoin, were both charged on five counts.

Insp Michael Blake, of Dungarvan, told Judge William Harnett that the DPP had elected to have the case tried by judge and jury and he sought an adjournment for one month. The Garda, he added, had no objection to the defendants being remanded on their own bail.

Judge Harnett remanded the two for one week and granted both bail in their own bonds of £600.
