Two drowned in boating accident

Two men were drowned last night in west Cork while attempting to board a boat at Courtmacsherry

Two men were drowned last night in west Cork while attempting to board a boat at Courtmacsherry. The incident occurred at about 11.30 p.m.

According to a Marine Rescue spokesman one of the men fell into the water as he was getting aboard the boat in Courtmacsherry harbour. His companion tried to rescue him - but both men drowned. Their bodies were found shortly afterwards by the Courtmacsherry lifeboat.

The men, who have not yet been named, are believed to be from Crosshaven.
