A suicide car-bomber attacked foreign troops near the Afghan capital Kabul today, killing a man and wounding a Canadian soldier.

The explosion on a main road just to the northeast of Kabul killed a man with a donkey cart beside the road, said police.

One car was destroyed, and another vehicle that was apparently being driven by foreign troops was slightly damaged.

Violence has intensified in Afghanistan in recent months with scores of people killed in clashes and roadside and suicide blasts as Nato builds up troop numbers in the dangerous south.
