An investigation is under way into the deaths of two men whose car went into the sea in Co Galway yesterday.

Three men were in the car that left the pier at Rossaveal. One them escaped and was treated for shock at Galway University Hospital.

The alarm was raised at 10pm by a fisherman in the harbour. It is understood the three men had been working as fishermen in Rossaveal for the past few months.

The Garda Water Unit and the Coastguard were called, and both bodies and the car were recovered at about 2am.

"The deceased are nationals of Latvia and Lithuania and are in their 30s. The survivor is from Lithuania," a Garda spokesman said.
