Two Shannon youths were yesterday each sentenced to 18 months detention in St Patrick's Institution after pleading guilty at Ennis District Court yesterday to stealing property worth £32,362, assaulting a 13year-old boy and stealing and damaging a number of cars.

John Paul Scullion (17), of Cronan Lawn, Shannon, and a 16-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, committed the offences in the Shannon area over a 17-day period in September.

The offences included the larceny of £28,000 worth of telecommunications equipment from Telecom Eireann.

They appeared before Judge Albert O'Dea.
