Two men were last night being questioned by gardai following the discovery of £140,000 worth of drugs in a remote woodland area near Midleton in Co Cork.

The men, both in their early 30s, were arrested by gardai at about 9 a.m. yesterday as they were removing cannabis from the wood in Knockraha. They were taken to Midleton Garda station and questioned under the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act, which allows suspects to be held for up to seven days.

It is understood that the arrests and seizure of the cannabis followed an extensive investigation by local gardai and members of the Drugs Squad from Anglesea Street Garda station in Cork.
