Two arrested over Belfast murder

Police have arrested two people in connection with the west Belfast murder of John Mongan.

Police have arrested two people in connection with the west Belfast murder of John Mongan.

Mr Mongan (30), was hacked and beaten to death in front of his heavily-pregnant wife at their Belfast home in February. His sons are also believed to have witnessed the attack.

His wife has since given birth to their third son.

Police arrested a 24-year-old youth following searches in the Rosemount and Shantallow areas of Derry overnight.

A woman was arrested this afternoon in connection with the killing. It is understood she was taken into custody in the Belfast area. 

Two men and a youth have already been charged with the killing.
