German police have arrested two men who bought a tank in Greece and tried to sell it on the Internet.

One of the men, a 36-year-old Greek, bought the tank as a military surplus vehicle.

He enlisted the help of a German friend, also 36, to try and sell it through an internet auction website.

German officers were alerted to the deal and discovered the vehicle had not undergone necessary changes to make it legal for civilian use.

The pair face charges of breaking German weapons control laws.
