A 39-year-old Monaghan man is recovering in hospital after being stabbed repeatedly, beaten and kicked by two men in Baggot Street, Dublin. He received multiple lacerations to his head and arms and was described as seriously ill. After the attack, at around 12.45 a.m. on Saturday, gardai detained two men found acting suspiciously at St Stephen's Place, off St Stephen's Green. They were brought to Harcourt Terrace Garda station where they were questioned and items of clothing removed for forensic testing.

Both were later released and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions on the matter.
