A 69-YEAR-OLD man died just yards from his house in Co Kilkenny after the car he was driving went out of control and struck a ditch.

Gardaí are also investigating a road death in Co Cavan in which a woman in her 40s was found dead in her car after hitting a bridge.

Pat Molloy, of Ardabhan, Tullaroan, Co Kilkenny, died when his car left the road shortly before midnight on Sunday in a single-vehicle incident.

The crash occurred at Ardabhan, and Mr Molloy was the sole occupant of the car.

Gardaí carried out a technical examination of the scene yesterday, and appealed to anyone who travelled on the road at Tullaroan at the time of the incident to contact them.

Meanwhile, Co Cavan gardaí are investigating how a foreign-national woman who was found dead in her car at Ricehill, Crossdowney, on the main road from Cavan town at 7am on Monday, had not been found earlier. It appears the woman's car hit a bridge near Crossdowney in a single-vehicle incident that occurred between 6pm on Sunday and 7am on Monday.

The road remained closed yesterday evening for forensic examination, and gardaí have appealed for information.
