Staff and management at a Waterford newspaper have agreed terms to facilitate the outsourcing of some departments.

The distribution, pre-press and printing functions at the Munster Expresswill be outsourced, resulting in 12 redundancies. Twelve staff will continue to be employed at the newspaper, which has a weekly circulation of about 7,000 copies.

Managing director Kieran Walsh said it was with deep regret the company had to embark on this rationalisation plan, resulting in the loss of jobs. He said it was vital for the newspaper to “realign its publishing business in order to return to profitability and secure the future of the paper”.
