Ankara - Turkey's conservative Prime Minister, Mr Mesut Yilmaz, saw off a parliamentary challenge to his rule yesterday in a wrangle which has raised doubts about the minority government's life-span. The deputy speaker said the opposition was well short of an absolute majority in the move to topple Mr Yilmaz for alleged corruption in the cabinet.
The motion was the most serious threat to Mr Yilmaz since he replaced an Islamist, Mr Necmettin Erbakan, as prime minister in June.
