Diyarbakir - Security forces killed 53 Kurdish rebels in a four-day offensive close to the Iraqi border that ended yesterday, regional authorities overseeing emergency rule in south-eastern Turkey said.

Thousands of troops and special forces, backed by air power, combed a mountainous area called Farasin in the south-eastern Hakkari province in pursuit of Kurdish guerrillas.
