CHARITY art exhibitions are fairly frequent affairs but the one that opened with a party in the Oisin Gallery in Dublin this week was as much an anniversary celebration as it was a fund raiser.

This year the Rathgar branch of Amnesty International celebrates its 35th birthday every single month since 1961 Isolde Peterson has hosted a meeting in her house. Watercolourist Stephanie Clear has also been a member since the beginning, so the crowd that gathered in the gallery were there to congratulate this very private pair of women on their extraordinary commitment.

Stephanie also donated some of her paintings to the exhibition and sales during the party were brisk. Judge Catherine McGuinness performed the opening honours and there were several legal types in the crowd including barristers Ercus Stewart and Inge Clissman, and solicitor Kenneth Morgan.
