Gardaí are today hunting the driver of a truck who rammed a patrol car in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened in the Painstown area of Drogheda, Co Louth, at around 4.50am.

A garda car signalled for the truck to stop, but it reversed and crashed into the vehicle.

Neither of the officers were seriously injured, but one was brought to hospital in Drogheda for treatment and later released.

A garda spokesman said two cars were with the truck, which was believed to have been stolen, and the vehicles were travelling in convoy.
