Bujumbura - The Burundi government yesterday called for a ceasefire with Hutu rebels but said that it saw little immediate prospect of peace.

The appeal follows a wave of fighting. Mr Nelson Mandela, former South African president, is to arrive on Friday to mediate in the conflict.
