Tributes have been paid to the late Louis Creaven, who chaired the Mid-Western Hospitals Development Trust, which helped raise €16 million for healthcare facilities. Aged 72, he was a resident of Newmarket -on-Fergus, Co Clare, and a native of Bellclare, Carrowbeg, Co Galway.

The trust contributed funding for an oncology centre at the Limerick Regional Hospital, as well as other healthcare facilities in the midwest. Fr Harry Bohan said his death “is a big loss to Newmarket, but also to the wider world”. His funeral Mass takes place in Newmarket-on-Fergus today.
