Berlin - A Berlin industrial tribunal yesterday opened hearings in the case of a Berlin opera contrabassist who was dismissed after signing a hotel bill in Israel with "Adolf Hitler".

Mr Gerd Reinke (54) acted under the influence of alcohol after a concert of the Deutsche Oper Berlin orchestra in Tel Aviv in late May. He apologised and said he was "deeply ashamed of his uncontrolled behaviour". Mr Reinke sued the Berlin state government after he was sacked without notice. - (AFP)
