Madrid - The trial of 23 leaders of the Basque guerrilla group ETA's political wing opened yesterday with defence lawyers asking for the case to be suspended or moved to the Basque country to ensure a fair verdict.

The radical politicians, who make up the entire leadership of the political party Herri Batasuna, are charged with collaborating with armed rebels and defending terrorism.
