The Special Criminal Court yesterday fixed January 14th as the trial date of two men facing charges connected with the discovery of a massive van bomb near the Border last year.

Mr Robert Anthony McGilloway (8), a native of Derry city with an address at Swords Road, Dublin, and Mr Padraig Fee (18), of Tattyboy, Inniskeen, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, were both remanded on continuing bail.

Mr McGilloway is charged with having an explosive substance with intent to endanger life at Etra, Carrickmacross, on November 10th last year. Mr Fee is charged with having an explosive substance at Tattyboy on two separate occasions, November 7th and November 10th last year.

An earlier court hearing was told the charges relate to 1,300 lb of explosives which were found in a van near Carrickmacross.
