LONDON - A campaign for an autonomous Isle of Wight with the Princess Royal as governor was described yesterday as "midsummer madness" by Mr Barry Field, Tory MP for the island. But Mr Morris Barton, who heads the island's council, is planning a referendum on a plan which includes the creation of a tax haven and status similar to the Isle of Man's.
