London - The Tory MP Mr Tony Baldry recommended that a lawyer receive an honour within a fortnight of borrowing £5,000 from him, the Commons Committee on Standards and Privileges disclosed yesterday.

Mr Baldry, a minister at the time, was criticised by the committee for failing to make any mention of the loan when he urged ministers to recognise Mr Sarosh Zaiwalla. He was also criticised for twice denying during a Commons inquiry that he had championed the Asian lawyer's cause.
