A man in his 20s was killed and two people were injured in a crash on the Mallow-Killarney Road at Roskeen shortly after 2pm yesterday.

The man who was killed was named locally last night as Darryl Murphy (28) of Roskeen, Co Cork. He was not far from his home when collision between a Subaru and a BMW occurred shortly after midday.

Mr Murphy survived a crash six years ago in which two of his friends died. The male driver of the second car sustained serious injuries. A female passenger in the second car had injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

Also yesterday, a 23-year-old man was killed when the car he was driving left the road and struck an entrance pier on the Ballyragget Road near Durrow, Co Laois, at about 2.20am.

He was the only occupant of the car and no other vehicle was involved.

In Co Mayo, a teenager was killed yesterday when the car she was driving was in a collision with another vehicle near Cross village. The collision happened in the townland of Dowagh, on the Headford-Ballinrobe Road.

The victim, who was the only occupant of her vehicle, was named locally as Keira Allen (18), Lough Mask Road, Ballinrobe.

The two occupants of the other vehicle, a recently married couple in their 20s from south Mayo, were taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar.
