The Howth RNLI lifeboat this morning rescued three people from a yacht that ran aground on rocks at Ireland’s Eye.

The 37ft vessel was sailing from Howth marina to Malahide marina when it went adrift and became grounded.

The RNLI was requested to assist at the scene at 3am by the Coast Guard. According to the RNLI, its smaller craft was able to navigate the rocks during the rescue.

The voluntary crew of three shot an anchor to prevent the yacht from drifting away once refloated.

One of the crew was taken aboard the lifeboat and transferred to Beaumont Hospital with a suspected broken wrist.
