Police in Belfast are today questioning two men and a woman over the killing of a man yesterday.

John Joseph Mongan (30) was attacked in his bedroom by men wielding hatchets and machetes who forced their way into the house at Fallswater Street in west Belfast at about 2am.

His pregnant wife, who was due to be induced yesterday, later gave birth to a son.

She suffered a head wound in the attack, although her injury was described as not serious.

The couple's two other sons were in the house and are thought to have witnessed the attack. They are understood to be with relatives.

Two men, (aged 32 and 37) were arrested yesterday in Derry, and the woman (68) was later arrested, also in Derry.

Mr Mongan was a member of the Traveller community and had only lived at the Fallswater address for a few months.
