Three people were killed and about a dozen were injured today in three separate explosions in Baghdad.

On central al-Rasheed Street, two passers-by were killed and at least 10 injured when an explosive device hidden in a cart went off near the Central Bank as two US Humvees drove past.

Most of the injured were guards at the bank. Four stores adjacent to the bank were damaged after the bomb was hidden underneath old electrical appliances. In a separate attack two US military vehicles were damaged by a bomb near Baghdad International Airport.

A military statement said a car bomb had damaged the armoured military shuttle buses. No casualties were reported.

The airport road is considered one of the most dangerous stretches of road in Iraq.

Meanwhile, another roadside bomb in the neighbourhood of al-Saydiyah, in south Baghdad, killed a bystander and injured a police captain, hospital sources said.

The explosion occurred as a US military convoy drove past. No American casualties were reported in the attack
