Three members of the Travelling community received jail sentences of up to three months after being convicted of charges following an outbreak of disturbances in Co. Wexford over the June Bank Holiday weekend.
The men, who were jailed for up to three months, formed part of group of 15 including two juveniles who appeared before Wexford District Court on foot of bench warrants issued earlier this month.
The majority of the men, it was heard, were unable to appear at New Ross District Court following the disturbances due to transport difficulties and ill relatives. A doctor's certificate was provided by one of the men.
Those charged were aged between 17 and 24 with addresses in Kildare, Limerick, Northern Ireland and Britain.
Fines of up to €800 each were handed down for public order offences in relation to 12 men who were not jailed. The defendants were arrested by gardai prior to yesterday's court and none made a reply when cautioned.
