Three men were in Garda custody last night after they were arrested following a double shooting in Co Limerick.

Gardaí said the three were arrested after two men were targeted in a gun attack in a housing estate in Patrickswell.

The shooting incident happened shortly before 7.40pm at Lisheen Park on the outskirts of the village, about five miles outside Limerick city.

Gardaí said the injured men were taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick where one of them was said to be in a serious condition. The second man suffered minor injuries.

Gardaí were last night investigating reports that a number of masked men forced their way into a house at Lisheen Park and fired several shots.

It is understood that a dispute between a local family and a criminal faction based in Limerick city may have been behind the attack. The three suspects were being questioned last night at separate Garda stations in Limerick city and county under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
