The farmers' pressure group in the North, Farmers' Action, yesterday protested outside a beef-processing plant near Ballymena, Co Antrim, calling for higher cattle prices.

Mr Kevin McCauley, a spokesman for the group, said Northern farmers were receiving £85 less per animal than their counterparts in Britain.

He said he did not foresee protests similar to the week-long blockade on processing plants in the Republic.
