MEPs returned from the last summer break before the 1999 EP elections to face a busy autumn. In Strasbourg the major concerns were the crisis in Russia, and the deteriorating situation in Kosovo.
MEPs also reached a successful conclusion to a long-running legislative tussle with Council on the question of auto-oil - the imposition by the year 2005 of strict limits on exhaust gases from cars.
