Yes, the book of the film, and if you can't or won't see the latter the original novel is a mega-weepy romantic page-turner, a Western for our times, as somebody put it, from the slow-motion horror of the road accident with which it opens to the endless open spaces of Montana amid which it is mostly played out. The human beings are a bit of a washout, frankly, but the horses are terrific.
