Bangkok - Thailand Interior Minister, Mr Sanan Kachornprasart, resigned yesterday after a corruption investigation found him guilty of filing a false financial declaration.

Mr Sanan, the Democratic Party's political kingmaker, said he would also step down as one of six deputy prime ministers and as a member of parliament for his district in northern Phichit province.

Mr Sanan and the Thai Prime Minister, Mr Chuan Leekpai, had been under intense pressure since the National Counter-Corruption Commission found on Tuesday that Mr Sanan had filed a false statement outlining a £1.2 million loan from a trading company.
