Two teenagers were in Garda custody in Limerick last night following the seizure of a loaded firearm.

Two teenagers were in Garda custody in Limerick last night following the seizure of a loaded firearm.

The juveniles, who are both male and aged 17, were arrested on the Knockalisheen Road on the north side of city on Wednesday night.

The weapon was recovered at about 6.30pm during a Garda operation targeting serious criminal activity in the Moyross area of the city.

Detectives from Mayorstone Garda station and uniformed officers arrested the suspects, who are related to key figures in one of the city’s criminal gangs. It is understood one of the youths was found in possession of the firearm, a loaded shotgun.

They were being questioned last night under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
