A teenage girl was seriously injured when she was knocked down by a car in a city centre in the North early today moments after getting out of a taxi.

The 18-year-old was hit by the car in North Queen Street, Belfast, at its junction with Henry Street at around 2am.

The PSNI said they are keen to speak to the driver of a red coloured taxi, which is believed to have dropped the teenager off shortly before the incident.

He condition in hospital was described as serious.

A police spokesman appealed for anyone who may have been walking or driving through the area at the time and who had not yet spoken to them to do so.
