DIVERS FOUND the body of a 17-year-old Limerick girl missing for almost a week in the river Shannon at the weekend.

DIVERS FOUND the body of a 17-year-old Limerick girl missing for almost a week in the river Shannon at the weekend.

The girl’s body was found near Barrington’s Pier shortly after 1pm on Saturday by Civil Defence search teams.

The discovery was made as part of the ongoing search for the 17-year-old girl who entered the Shannon at Sarsfield Bridge in Limerick on Sunday, August 23rd.

Garda divers and the Coast Guard helicopter had been involved in the search.

The teenager’s body was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle where a postmortem examination was carried out. Her funeral is due to take place tomorrow.
