A teenager was remanded in custody last night following an attack on a man in Longford town.

A teenager was remanded in custody last night following an attack on a man in Longford town.

The 19-year-old was charged with serious assault at a special sitting of Longford District Court.

Gardai said Gregorz Rajfur was remanded to Castlerea Prison to appear before the court again on Tuesday.

The victim, who is believed to be in his late 40s, was left with serious head injuries after the attack on Dublin Road shortly before 9pm last night.

He was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar where his condition is described as stable.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old youth is being questioned by gardai in Templemore, Co Tipperary, investigating a stabbing in the town last night.
