A teenager is to appear in court tomorrow charged with an attack in Derry which left a man fighting for his life.

The 15-year-old is accused of attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm and assault after a 29-year-old was brutally beaten at a barbecue in the city on the 16th of July.

The defendant will appear at a special sitting of the Magistrates' Court in Derry tomorrow.

Derry civil servant Paul McCauley spent days in a critical condition with head injuries at the Royal Victoria hospital in Belfast following the attack, which happened in the Chapel Road area of Derry's Waterside.

One of Mr McCauley's friends suffered a fractured jaw and another suffered bruising. Another man who was arrested was released without charge.
