Teenage girl killed in Belfast road crash

A teenage girl died in hospital last night, hours after being struck by a bus in central Belfast.

A teenage girl died in hospital last night, hours after being struck by a bus in central Belfast.

The girl was fatally injured in the incident in Royal Avenue, close to the junction with High Street and Donegall Place.

Firefighters used heavy lifting equipment to free the girl, who was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital where she later died.

Police sealed off the scene of the crash for several hours and an investigation was launched.

Meanwhile, gardaí have named the victim of yesterday's fatal road collision on the N54 near Monaghan as Michael Manley (59) from Greaghnacapple,  Roslea, Co Fermanagh.

He died when the van he was driving was in a collision with a lorry on the main road between Monaghan and Clones yesterday morning

The lorry driver and his passenger were taken to hospital in Cavan and treated for shock.
