Teenage boy remanded over Polish man's murder

A teenage boy was today remanded in custody charged with the murder of a Polish man in Dublin last month.

A teenage boy was today remanded in custody charged with the murder of a Polish man in Dublin last month.

Pavel Kalite (29) was stabbed to death in Drimnagh on February 23rd.

He and his friend Marius Szwajkos (27) died after being attacked outside a chip shop close to their home on Benbulben Road.

Detective Garda Eamonn Maloney of Sundrive Road Garda station told Dublin District Court today that the boy (17) was charged at 11.05pm yesterday at the station.

His father was present that the time. The court was told that when the boy was cautioned, he was invited to make a reply, to which he said "no".

Judge Thomas Fitzpatrick remanded the teenager in custody to St Patrick's Institution until next Wednesday, March 19th, when he is due before the Juvenile Court.

Following a request from defence solicitor Ciara McCann Judge Fitzpatrick granted free legal aid, citing the gravity of the alleged offence.
