TRINITY College Dublin is to undertake research projects into drug abuse and its impact on society

TRINITY College Dublin is to undertake research projects into drug abuse and its impact on society. Over £400,000 has been made available for the research under the Science and Technology against Drugs Programme, which arose from Ireland's Presidency of the EU last year. The research is being carried out by nine of the college's departments and covers a range of subjects, from the toxicity of ecstasy to the psychological needs of children of drug users.

Speaking at yesterday's launch, the Provost of Trinity, Dr Thomas Mitchell, said: "This is a high profile initiative and we are determined that our interdisciplinary approach will have a positive impact in the fight against drugs".
