Trinity College economist Professor Frances Ruane has been appointed Director of the ESRI in succession to Professor Brendan Whelan.
Professor is currently Associate Professor of Economics in TCD where she specialises international economics and industrial development.
She is also a director of DEPFA Bank and of Bord Gáis Éireann and chairwoman of the National Statistics Board.
Professor Ruane will take up her post at Ireland's leading economic think tank before the end of the year, succeeding Professor Brendan Whelan whose term expires at that point.
