Taxi services are to operate as normal during the Ryder Cup following a decision by drivers yesterday to call off a protest campaign over a planned new structure for fares.
Fears that the golf event would be targeted were expressed since taxi drivers began a series of protests over the planned new fares in July.
Meanwhile an organisation representing Irish rail users has criticised the decision to close the car park of Leixlip Louisa Bridge station for the duration of the Ryder Cup.
The car park has been closed to facilitate coach transfers from the station to the K Club, but rail lobby group Platform 11 says the decision is seriously inconveniencing regular users of the station's park-and-ride facility.
"The Ryder Cup is a wonderful event but it is unacceptable and seriously misguided to inconvenience regular rail commuters who use the park-and-ride facility at this station," said Derek Wheeler, Platform 11's communication and media officer.
An Irish Rail spokesman said last night that, while the decision had been taken reluctantly, Irish Rail felt that it had to help facilitate the thousands of customers who would come through Leixlip Louisa Bridge station to use the shuttle service to the K Club.
