A man who hijacked a taxi and threatened to shoot the driver, while on bail for committing burglaries, was jailed for six years yesterday.

Mark Ryan (24), of Lenihan Avenue, Prospect, Limerick, who had 79 previous convictions, also pleaded guilty to slashing a 60-year-old man across his face and stabbing him in a separate incident. The court heard Ryan produced what the taxi driver believed was a real gun and threatened to shoot him if the driver did not give him money.
