Taxi driver faces fraud charges

A book of evidence has been served on a taxi driver charged with conspiring to defraud an insurance company

A book of evidence has been served on a taxi driver charged with conspiring to defraud an insurance company. The case arises out of a number of allegedly staged traffic accidents around Dublin.

Mr Brian Carthy (50), of Ennafort Park, Raheny, Dublin, is charged with conspiring to defraud four insurance companies and Telecom Eireann in five staged accidents at different locations in the city between 1990 and 1992.

Dublin District Court heard yesterday there were a large number of witnesses in the case. Judge William Hamill remanded Mr Carthy on continuing bail to April 12th.
