The transfer of a highly hazardous cargo from a tanker with a cracked upper deck is due to take place in Belfast Lough today, weather permitting. The vessel got into trouble in heavy seas west of Tory Island last month.

The British Maritime and Coastguard Agency said “stringent safeguards” would be observed during the transfer of 54,304 tonnes of vacuum gas oil from the vessel Genmar Companion.
