The Tánaiste has been discharged from Waterford hospital this evening but will undergo a number of tests in the coming days for a suspected hernia.

Ms Harney was taken to hospital this morning after complaining of feeling unwell.

She was attending a conference on Leisure and Community at the Tower Hotel in the city when she experienced a pain in her stomach.

She was taken by ambulance to Waterford Regional Hospital at around 10 a.m., where she is currently undergoing tests.

Earleir a spokesman for the Progressive Democrats told ireland.comthat there is no immediate cause for concern and that Ms Harney is awake and in good spirits.

He said that Ms Harney’s stay in hospital was purely a precautionary measure.
