Colombo - The Sri Lankan government has agreed with the main opposition to include Tamil Tiger rebels on a proposed interim council to administer the war-torn north and east of the country, political sources said last night.

The agreement was reached at a meeting between the ruling People's Alliance and the opposition United National Party (UNP) to allow all parties in the conflict to join the interim council if they wish, a shift from the earlier government stand.
