ON the application of the Garda inquests on a man and woman shot dead on November 24th last in Tallaght, Co Dublin, were adjourned yesterday.
Both Catherine Brennan (29) a part time cleaner of Knockmore Crescent, Tallaght, and Edward McCabe (35), unemployed, of Glenshane Crescent, Tallaght were found with fatal gunshot wounds beside a parked car on a road in Tallaght.
Applying for the adjournments Insp Patrick Finlay told the Dublin County Coroner's court that both shootings were still being investigated.
Dr Margot Bolster, assistant State Pathologist, told the inquest that Mr McCabe died as a result of two gunshots, one to the head and one to the chest, and Ms Brennan died as a result of gunshot wounds to the head.
The dead man's mother, Mrs Ann McCabe of Blackditch Road, Ballyfermot, and Ms Brennan's brother, Mr Patrick Brennan of Walkinstown Crescent, said they had identified the bodies.
The adjournment was granted by Mr Bartley Sheehan, the Dublin County Coroner, who said: "This is the most distressing case here today. A sense of shock is not just gripping the family and relatives of both deceased families, but the whole community. Sadly, these shootings are increasing in frequency in our society.
"Each family has this court's sympathy in trying to cope with deaths of two people of such young ages," Dr Sheehan added.
