The historic French tall ship, Belem, set sail from Dublin today folowing several days in port to celebrate French week.

The historic French tall ship, Belem, set sail from Dublin today folowing several days in port to celebrate French week.

Hundreds of visitors thronged the dockside today as the ship set sail for home at 11am.

Belem, the oldest tall ship in Europe, made the four-hour journey from Roscoff last Tuesday.

French week, marking the 50th anniversary of the Alliance Francaise, started on Tuesday and continues until tomorrow at Spencer Dock.

A festival market, organised by Le Marche de France, is open to the public today and tomorrow.

Stalls will offer fresh French food, including breads, croissants, patisserie, cakes, chocolate, macaroons, salami, cheeses, French paella, seafood and crepes, French beer, cider and wines.

Entertainment will include a trampoline bungee and games and music for children and adults.
