Talks to end the refuse collection strike in the South Dublin County Council area are to begin this morning under an independent chairman, Mr Stephen Treacy. The talks are expected to last all day and may continue tomorrow.

The dispute has affected the entire council area of 66,000 households for three weeks and some estates have not had collections for more than six weeks.
